A 23-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after being trapped under heavy equipment at a workplace in Ottawa’s south end, according to Ottawa police.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on Barnsdale Road, near Highway 416, at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to a report from CBC News. The incident took place at Lanthier Top Soil, the report said, citing Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
Marc-Antoine Deschamps, a spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service, said the incident involved a truck bin. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development confirmed to CBC News that it is investigating the death at Lanthier Top Soil, though it said it had no further details to share at this time.
Ottawa police said they are supporting the ministry’s investigation but have not indicated that the death is being treated as criminal.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
