Health Canada has ordered a halt to all plasma collection activities at a Grifols donation facility on Taylor Avenue in Winnipeg, following the deaths of two donors who had given plasma at the company’s Winnipeg clinics.
The regulator confirmed the suspension in a statement to CTV News, saying it followed an inspection of the site conducted earlier this summer. According to a Health Canada spokesperson, the action was taken because Grifols had not effectively carried out certain corrective and preventive measures and could not demonstrate that the Taylor Avenue location had an effective quality management system in place.
Two Donor Deaths Reported
The suspension comes after two people who donated plasma at Grifols clinics in Winnipeg died, one in October 2025 and another in January 2026. The circumstances surrounding the deaths were not detailed in Health Canada’s statement.
Company Had Already Paused Collections
Before Health Canada’s order, Grifols had voluntarily suspended plasma donation collection at the site in August. CTV News reported that it has reached out to Grifols for comment on the suspension, and the outlet noted that the story is continuing to develop as more information becomes available.
