Six locations of the Amir restaurant chain in Quebec have been ordered to pay a combined $12,500 in fines over the past year, according to records published in the province’s food safety registry by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ).
The 12 fines were issued between November 2025 and October 2026 against locations in Sherbrooke, Montreal, Quebec City, Brossard and Gatineau. Each restaurant is registered to a different numbered company, according to MAPAQ records. Most of the violations cited involved food not being kept at required temperatures and premises that were not free of insects, rodents or their droppings.
MAPAQ notes that the inspections behind these fines did not necessarily occur recently, as months or more can pass between an infraction and the publication of a judgment once the legal process concludes.
Sherbrooke Location Tops the List
The Amir on Rue King Est in Sherbrooke accumulated five fines over the past year, the most of any location in the province, totalling $5,500. Violations there included heat-sensitive products not cooled or held at 4°C or below, a hot perishable product not kept at 60°C, and a beard covering infraction. The largest single fine on the list, $2,000, was issued to this location in October 2026 for a repeat temperature violation.

Montreal-Area and Other Locations
A Restaurant Amir on Rue Notre-Dame Ouest in Montreal’s Griffintown area was fined a combined $2,500 for two violations related to premises not being free of contaminants and animals, including insects, rodents and their droppings. MAPAQ said the operator running that location at the time of the infractions has since ceased operations.
A Quebec City location on Rue Bouvier was fined $2,000 across two incidents, both involving heat-sensitive products not properly cooled. An Amir Verdun location on Rue Wellington in Montreal was fined $1,000 for a similar temperature violation; MAPAQ records show a $2,000 fine was also issued against the same address in November 2024 for a separate contaminant-related violation, with the operator at the time having since ceased operations as well.
A Restaurant Amir on Boulevard Lapinière in Brossard was fined $1,000 after inspectors found premises not free of rodents, insects or droppings. An Amir on Boulevard Maloney Ouest in Gatineau was fined $500 over a beard covering violation.
How MAPAQ Fines Work
MAPAQ fines are issued through the courts and published in the province’s food safety registry once judgments are finalized. The ministry notes that the violations listed do not necessarily reflect current conditions at the establishments named.
