What to know about Canada Child Benefit payments

CCB amounts are recalculated every July using your family's net income from the previous year's tax return, so both parents or partners need to file on time to keep payments flowing.

CCB payments are tax-free and don't need to be reported as income.

Who can get the Canada Child Benefit

  • You live with a child who is under 18.
  • You are primarily responsible for the child's care and upbringing.
  • You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes.

Families with adjusted family net income under $38,237 receive the full amount for each child; above that, payments gradually shrink based on income and the number of children. A child turning 18 gets their last payment in the month of their birthday, at the 6-to-17 rate.
