The National Capital Commission (NCC) has confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed information stored in its website database, in a privacy breach that occurred on Aug. 28.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the federal Crown corporation said the breach may have exposed personal details including names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and telephone numbers of individuals in its database.
What Information Was Affected
The NCC said it has not received any reports to date indicating that the compromised information has been misused. Even so, the organization is urging people to remain alert for unusual or unexpected communications, including suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls requesting personal information.

NCC’s Response to the Breach
The NCC said it has already taken measures to address the incident and is now reviewing its broader security practices and safeguards in an effort to prevent similar breaches from happening again. In its statement, the organization said it “regrets this incident and any concern it may cause.”
The Crown corporation, which manages federal lands and properties in the National Capital Region, directed anyone with questions to reach out to its Access to Information and Privacy Office by email. It also noted that individuals have the option of filing a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, either online or through its toll-free phone line.
