Weyburn Credit Union to Open Branch in Growing Pilot Butte

Weyburn Credit Union is expanding its footprint into Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan, bringing its member-owned banking model to one of the province’s fastest-growing communities.

The new Pilot Butte Advice Centre will offer personalized financial advice, lending services, day-to-day banking and digital banking tools, with decisions made locally, according to the credit union.

A Member-Owned Approach

As a financial cooperative, Weyburn Credit Union is owned by its members rather than shareholders, and says its focus is on personalized advice, local decision-making, and reinvestment in the communities where it operates.

Krista Hubic, the credit union’s Chief Strategy and Solutions Officer, said Pilot Butte’s growth and sense of community made it “a natural fit” for the organization’s approach, adding that the expansion offers an opportunity to build relationships and support local families and businesses.

Growth Plans and Community Involvement

CEO Don Shumlich said Pilot Butte’s growth and “shared investment in its future” aligned with the credit union’s identity as a member-owned institution. He said the goal is to extend the credit union’s banking and advice model to more people while continuing to strengthen the organization for its existing membership base.

The credit union said sustainable growth through expansions like this one helps create new opportunities and supports future investment that benefits its overall membership. It also noted a history of community partnerships, sponsorships, scholarships, charitable giving and a Community Fund as part of its broader community commitments.

Weyburn Credit Union said further details on services, community engagement opportunities and the timeline for opening the Pilot Butte location will be released in the coming months.
