Kia Canada is recalling 48,070 Seltos crossovers from the 2024 through 2026 model years due to a risk of fire, according to recall information posted by Transport Canada.
The recall affects only all-wheel-drive versions of the Seltos. The issue stems from the AWD control unit located under the driver’s seat, which can become contaminated by a mixture of salt and moisture that accumulates inside the vehicle. Over time, this contamination can lead to corrosion, which in turn can cause a short circuit. Transport Canada’s recall notice states that a short circuit carries a risk of fire, even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
What Owners Are Being Told to Do
As a precaution, Kia is advising owners of affected Seltos vehicles to park outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until repairs have been completed under the recall.
Dealers will inspect the AWD control unit and replace it, along with other components if necessary. As part of the fix, a protective cover will also be installed over the control unit to address the exposure issue.

New Seltos Generation Not Affected
The recall does not extend to the redesigned, second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos, which went on sale this summer. That newer model is a separate generation from the vehicles covered by this recall.
Owners of 2024-2026 Seltos AWD models are expected to be contacted regarding scheduling the inspection and repair work at Kia dealerships.
