PLATFORM’s Life Insurance Division Expands Into Alberta With Two Senior Hires

PLATFORM Insurance Management’s life insurance and estate planning division, Platform Financial, is expanding into Alberta with the appointment of two senior leaders to support the move.

Brad Malazdrewicz has joined as managing partner for Alberta, working out of Calgary, where he will oversee the firm’s operations in the province and help build out its network of advisors. Blaise Morin has joined in a national role as director of insurance solutions, focusing on advanced insurance planning for business owners, professionals and wealthy families across the country.

“Our expansion into Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for Platform Financial,” said Matthew Francis, president of Platform Financial.

Francis said Malazdrewicz’s familiarity with the advisor landscape made him well suited to lead the Alberta operation, while Morin’s background working with high-net-worth clients adds to the firm’s capabilities on a national level. The release did not name either executive’s previous employer.

Backgrounds of the New Hires

Malazdrewicz brings experience in financial services leadership, business development and building advisor teams. Morin has more than two decades in financial services and insurance, with a focus on insurance planning, estate preservation and advisor support. His work has included advising business owners, professionals and affluent families on insurance strategies connected to wealth, tax and estate planning, as well as leading insurance teams and handling complex case design.

A Growing Enterprise Risk Business

PLATFORM was founded in 2014 by Francis and Charles Quenneville as a boutique brokerage serving the development and construction industry. The employee-owned firm has since expanded into surety, commercial property and casualty insurance, high-net-worth personal lines, employee benefits and natural resources coverage.

In January 2025, PLATFORM launched Platform Financial as a specialized life insurance advisory business centered on tax and estate planning. At the time, Francis described the division as part of PLATFORM’s broader goal of acting as an enterprise risk solutions group for its clients.

Why Alberta, Why Now

The Alberta expansion gives Platform Financial a foothold in a province with a large base of private business owners, particularly in the energy and construction sectors—industries where PLATFORM’s property and casualty and surety teams already have an established client base. Permanent life insurance is commonly used in corporate estate planning to cover tax liabilities triggered on death and to support business succession planning.

The move reflects a broader pattern among commercial brokerages, which are increasingly offering life insurance and estate planning services to the same business owners they already insure for property, casualty and surety needs. That approach puts firms like PLATFORM in more direct competition with standalone life insurance and wealth advisory firms for the same client relationships.
