Daan Go Cake Lab, the dessert chain founded by MasterChef Canada season 7 winner Christopher Siu, is closing its two British Columbia locations on October 25, ending a three-and-a-half-year run in the region.
The company announced the closure on Instagram, calling it “a bittersweet end to our story.” In the post, the team wrote, “After an amazing three and a half years with our community, we have made the difficult decision to close our stores in British Columbia.” The announcement came only days before the final day of operation, prompting a wave of comments from customers describing the closure as sudden.
Expansion and Growth in BC
Daan Go started in Toronto in 2017 before expanding west in 2023, opening its first British Columbia shop on Garden City Road in Richmond. A second BC location followed in August 2025, inside the Diamond Robinson Building on West 7th Avenue in Vancouver. The brand built its reputation on elaborately shaped desserts, including a durian-flavoured cake shaped like the spiky fruit and a cake designed to resemble a whole roast pig, alongside character-themed macarons and pastries. The shops also sold more conventional items such as black forest cake, tiramisu cake and croissants, and became a popular choice for birthday and celebration orders.

Closure Details and Gift Cards
The closure applies only to the two British Columbia stores; all four of Daan Go’s Ontario locations remain open. Customers holding gift cards with remaining balances are being asked to use them before October 25 or to contact the company if they are unable to visit before the closing date. On the final day, all in-store items will be sold at a 20% discount, though the team said the discount will not apply to preorders since availability cannot be guaranteed.
The shutdown adds Daan Go to a list of recent Metro Vancouver food business closures that have included Hook at English Bay, Legendary Noodle on Denman Street and Once More in Richmond.
