Ottawa’s Vanitea Room Tea Salon to Close After Decade in Business

A long-running Ottawa tea salon is shutting its doors after nearly ten years in business. The Vanitea Room, located on Somerset Street West in Centretown, will hold its final tea service on Oct. 31.

The business announced the closure in social media posts on Oct. 22, saying “every chapter has its season, and we feel fortunate to have shared this one with you.”

A Decade of Service in Centretown

The Vanitea Room opened in 2016 just east of Bay Street, according to its website. The salon built a reputation for its elaborate decor, featuring antique gilt mirrors, chandeliers and tufted velvet furnishings, along with its bottomless mimosas served during meals.

In 2019, the business was named one of Canada’s 100 best brunch spots by online reservation service OpenTable.

Owner’s Other Venture Also Closed

The Vanitea Room’s owner, Hind Mubarak Brown, had expanded her business in the spring of 2023 by opening a second restaurant, VIV Bistro, on Preston Street. That location closed in late 2025.

No further details were provided about the reasons behind the closures or any future plans for the owner or the Somerset Street West location.
