Hyundai is recalling more than 1,400 Ioniq 9 SUVs in Canada due to a potential malfunction in the vehicles’ second-row power seats, according to a Transport Canada notice updated Thursday.
The recall covers certain 2026 and 2027 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Ultimate Calligraphy models fitted with second-row captain chairs, affecting a total of 1,460 vehicles. The problem relates to the power-folding function of the seats, which in some cases may fail to detect an obstruction in its path and keep moving even after making contact with something. Transport Canada said this could raise the risk of injury.
What Owners Should Do
As a precaution, Hyundai is advising owners of affected vehicles to ensure the second-row seats are empty before using the power-folding function, until the repair has been carried out. The company will contact affected owners directly and provide a software update for the rear power seats. The fix can be delivered wirelessly for eligible vehicles, or owners can book an appointment at a Hyundai dealership to have it installed. The repair will be done at no cost to owners.
Owners can determine whether their vehicle is part of the recall by entering their vehicle identification number into Hyundai Canada’s recall lookup tool.

Similar Action in the United States
A comparable recall has also been issued in the United States, covering certain 2026 Ioniq 9 vehicles with Limited, Calligraphy or Calligraphy Design trim packages. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 5,360 vehicles are affected in the U.S. recall.
The American notice describes the same concern, warning that second-row power seats may fail to detect a person and keep moving during functions such as automatic power folding and stowing. U.S. owners have likewise been advised to use caution around the second-row seats until the software update is applied.
