Czech Defence Firm CSG Becomes Largest Shareholder in MDA Space with 9.5% Stake

Czech defence company CSG has acquired a 9.5 per cent stake in MDA Space Ltd., making it the largest shareholder in the Canadian space technology company.

CSG described the purchase as a strategic investment, saying it sees opportunities to explore potential co-operation between the two companies over time. CSG chair Michal Strnad called MDA Space a highly respected, well led, profitable and growing space company with exceptional technological capabilities.

Potential Areas of Co-operation

Strnad pointed to the possibility of co-investing with MDA Space in manufacturing or assembly facilities in Europe, as well as partnering on strategic acquisitions. The comments suggest CSG views the stake as a step toward deeper industrial ties with MDA Space rather than a purely financial holding.

MDA Space CEO Mike Greenley welcomed the investment, describing CSG as a leading European industrial group with a proven track record in building high-quality defence businesses.

Market Reaction

Following news of the stake purchase, MDA Space shares were down 23 cents at $39.95 in early-afternoon trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The transaction was reported by The Canadian Press on Oct. 13, 2026, based in Montreal.

Terence Miller studied finance and economics, and spent a lot of that time more interested in why markets behave the way they do than in memorizing formulas for exams. He's drawn to stories about smaller companies and the decisions behind them: why a founder pivoted, why a deal fell apart, why a "sure thing" wasn't. He's still figuring out his voice as a writer, which he thinks is a more honest thing to admit than pretending otherwise. When he's not writing, he's probably reading earnings calls for fun, which he recognizes is a strange hobby to have.
