Calgary-based digital health company PurposeMed is being acquired by Grindr in a deal valued at US$250 million, with the transaction splitting the company’s healthcare brands onto separate paths forward.
Under the agreement, PurposeMed’s Freddie and Affirming Care Pharmacy businesses will join Grindr, while its Frida and Foria healthcare units will spin off as independent companies. The deal is structured as US$190 million in cash and US$60 million in stock, with up to an additional US$70 million available depending on performance targets set for 2027. According to The Wall Street Journal, the transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
In a LinkedIn post announcing the changes, PurposeMed said its various healthcare verticals have each developed their own identity in the market and are now ready for focused strategic direction on their own. The company said that as its core businesses matured, each reached a point where dedicated attention made sense.
Freddie Joins Grindr’s Health Push
PurposeMed said pairing Freddie’s clinical infrastructure with Grindr’s reach and existing community connections could help expand access to affirming sexual healthcare across both Canada and the United States. The company emphasized that the team that built Freddie will continue running the business under its new ownership.
Grindr intends to combine Freddie with its existing Woodwork telehealth offering, folding both into a unit called Grindr Health.

Frida and Foria Go Independent
While Freddie moves to Grindr, PurposeMed’s other two healthcare brands are being spun out as standalone companies. Frida, which offers virtual ADHD care, will operate independently with a focus on expanding access for Canadians. Foria, which provides gender-affirming care services, will also become its own company and continue its growth plans.
PurposeMed noted that Foria recently expanded its services into British Columbia, adding to its existing presence in Ontario and Alberta.
A Milestone in PurposeMed’s Growth
The acquisition marks a significant turn for a company built around combining specialized clinicians, technology and pharmacy delivery to reach communities that face barriers to traditional healthcare. PurposeMed previously secured growth financing led by True North Fund, with additional backing from BDC and Panache Ventures. That investment, announced in March 2025, supported the company’s expansion plans, including its push into the U.S. market.
With the Grindr deal now set, PurposeMed described the arrangement as giving its various healthcare brands distinct paths to keep growing — Freddie and Affirming Care Pharmacy moving forward with Grindr, and Frida and Foria continuing as independent businesses.
