Saskatchewan Agriculture Co-operative Fined $100,000 After Wash Bay Worker Injury

An agriculture company has been fined $100,000 after pleading guilty to contravening employee safety regulations following a workplace incident in Saskatoon in which a wash bay attendant was seriously injured.

According to the province, a worker with Agrifoods International Co-operative was pinched between a semi-trailer and a milk tanker trailer in November 2023 while working as a wash bay attendant. The province said the company had failed to ensure that only trained operators were permitted to use powered mobile equipment.

Guilty Plea and Court Outcome

Agrifoods International Co-operative pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 29 in Saskatoon Provincial Court. The province said two additional charges against the company were withdrawn as part of the proceedings.

Regulatory Enforcement in the Agriculture Sector

The case was reported by The Canadian Press, which noted the $100,000 penalty stems from the province’s enforcement of workplace safety regulations governing the use of powered mobile equipment. The province’s statement did not provide further details on the worker’s current condition or additional company comment.
