A well-known Edmonton vintage retailer has shut down its storefront in the city’s core after just over a year in operation, with the owner pointing to the difficulties of running a business on an upper floor of a shared retail building.
Alexander & Rose, which has sold vintage clothing and goods since 2018, opened its location inside The Oliver Exchange building in the Wîhkwêntôwin neighbourhood in June 2025. During its time there, the shop built a following not just for its curated vintage selection but also for community events such as its High Society nights.
Owner Cites Second-Floor Retail Challenges
In an announcement posted to Instagram, owner Zach said the decision to close the storefront was difficult, but that operating the business from a second-floor retail space had proven unsustainable over time. He described the closure as an emotional one, saying it was ultimately the only viable option for the business moving forward.
Zach also used the announcement to thank the customers, vendors, staff, and neighbours who supported Alexander & Rose during its run at The Oliver Exchange, adding that the response from the community underscored strong local demand for quality vintage goods in Edmonton.

Business Plans to Reopen Elsewhere
Despite the closure of the Oliver Exchange location, Alexander & Rose is not shutting down entirely. According to the announcement, the team behind the business is actively searching for a new space that would better fit its retail model going forward.
Zach framed the move as a transition rather than an ending, telling followers that leaving The Oliver Exchange does not mark the conclusion of the business’s story. No timeline or new location has been announced yet, and it remains unclear where or when Alexander & Rose will reopen.
