Agricultural futures markets showed a mixed picture on Wednesday, September 29, with grain contracts posting modest gains and losses while livestock futures saw larger swings, according to closing market data reported by Windsor News Today.
Corn futures slipped slightly, with the December contract down half a cent to $5.22 and the March contract also down half a cent to $5.35. Soybean futures moved higher, with the November contract up 9 cents to $12.97 and the January contract up 9 cents to $13.12. Wheat futures gained ground as well, with the December contract up 4 cents to $6.93 and the March contract up 3 cents to $7.07.
Livestock Futures See Bigger Moves
Livestock markets recorded more pronounced shifts. Live cattle futures were mixed, with the October contract down 17 cents to $217.27 while the December contract rose 10 cents to $220.90. Feeder cattle futures climbed more sharply, with the October contract up 187 cents to $333.77 and the November contract up 180 cents to $331.07.
Local Crop Pricing at Ontario Co-ops
Regional pricing data from Agris at Thamesville and Hensall District Co-op showed similar trends for forward crop contracts. At Agris, 2026 crop corn fell 1 cent to $6.62 per bushel, while 2027 crop corn dropped 2 cents to $6.37 per bushel. Soybean pricing rose at both locations, with Agris quoting 2026 crop soybeans up 9 cents to $17.17 per bushel and 2027 crop soybeans up 7 cents to $16.29 per bushel. Hensall District Co-op reported nearly identical soybean movement, with 2026 crop soybeans up 9 cents to $17.13 per bushel and 2027 crop soybeans up 7 cents to $16.30 per bushel.
Wheat pricing varied by class and location. At Agris, 2026 soft white winter wheat fell 14 cents to $8.19 per bushel and 2027 soft white winter wheat dropped 13 cents to $8.62 per bushel, while 2026 soft red winter wheat rose 4 cents to $8.17 per bushel and 2027 soft red winter wheat edged up half a cent to $8.57 per bushel. At Hensall District Co-op, both winter wheat classes moved higher: 2026 soft white winter wheat rose 4 cents to $8.18 per bushel and 2027 soft white winter wheat gained half a cent to $8.58 per bushel, while 2026 soft red winter wheat rose 4 cents to $8.18 per bushel and 2027 soft red winter wheat gained half a cent to $8.58 per bushel.
Hog Prices Decline
Ontario Pork’s daily report showed hog prices moving lower. The U.S. CME price came in at $80.90 U.S. per hundredweight on a dressed-weight basis, down 72 cents from the previous day. The 100% formula price was reported at $207.35 per hundred kilograms, dressed weight, down $1.49 from the prior session.
