CIMA+ Opens Fifth Alberta Office as Part of Western Canada Expansion

Consulting engineering firm CIMA+ has officially opened a new office in Grande Prairie, Alberta, extending its footprint in the province and across Western Canada. The office, located at 9928 100 Avenue, became the company’s fifth location in Alberta and its 11th across Western Canada.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on October 1 in partnership with the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce to mark the opening. CIMA+ employees had already been working locally in Grande Prairie for about a year before the office was formally established. The company said it plans to continue hiring in the coming months to grow its local team and increase its capacity to serve clients in Northern Alberta.

Strategic Position in Northern Alberta

Company leadership described the Grande Prairie office as part of a broader push to position teams closer to the markets and communities they serve across the province. CIMA+ said Northern Alberta continues to produce opportunities across multiple sectors, and the new office will serve as a local base to offer expertise in buildings, infrastructure, transportation, and energy and resources.

Daniel Matthews, Regional Executive Vice President for Western Canada at CIMA+, said Grande Prairie represents an important part of the firm’s development in the region, noting the office brings the company closer to clients and improves its ability to respond to the needs of northern communities. Trevor North, the firm’s Lead Engineer and Grande Prairie Office Lead, said the goal is to pair local knowledge of the region with the national expertise CIMA+ can draw on from its operations across Canada.

Ties to Defence Sector Growth

CIMA+ also pointed to Grande Prairie’s location along a transportation and logistics corridor serving Northern Alberta and communities farther north as a strategic factor in the office opening. The company said this positioning supports its wider market development strategy, including its expanding work in the defence sector.

Sylvain Gazaille, Senior Director of the Defence Market at CIMA+, said strengthening the firm’s presence in Northern Alberta is a key part of its defence strategy, as the region’s logistics corridor connects the firm to communities, partners and infrastructure expected to play a role in Canada’s evolving defence needs.

CIMA+ has also become a member of the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce and said it intends to keep engaging with local organizations, clients and partners as its team in the city grows. Founded in 1990, CIMA+ now operates more than 45 offices across Canada and employs over 3,700 people, most of whom hold ownership stakes in the company.
