Ikea Opens New London, Ont. Store in Former Hudson’s Bay Space at White Oaks Mall

Ikea has opened a new store in London, Ontario, taking over an anchor space at White Oaks Mall that was previously occupied by Hudson’s Bay Company. The Swedish retailer’s doors opened to customers on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, marking the company’s arrival in the city.

The grand opening drew a line of customers waiting to enter the store. A representative of Ikea Canada, Selwyn Crittendon, spoke at the opening event, though the company’s specific remarks were not detailed. Store staff, including employee Camila Romiti, were on hand putting finishing touches on displays as the location prepared to welcome shoppers.

Filling a Former Anchor Space

The new Ikea store occupies space at White Oaks Mall that had been vacated by Hudson’s Bay Company, giving the shopping centre a new anchor tenant. The move brings Ikea’s furniture and home goods offerings to a mall location that had previously been associated with the now-closed department store chain.

What the Opening Means for Shoppers

With shelves stocked with products, shopping carts staged for customers, and checkout terminals ready for business, the London location represents Ikea’s continued presence in Southwestern Ontario retail. The opening event highlighted the transition of the mall space from its former department store use to its new role as a furniture and home furnishings destination.
